New York defensive driving classroom class is
the only course approved in New York. For the most part Online Defensive Driving Courses are ineffective and counter productive. They mostly help the vendors without helping driver safety and conditions. Most obnoxious is the form of advertising which gives the impression that the course is approved in New York contrary to the facts. Other problems with the online course is that someone can take the course for someone else. This makes the course subject to all kinds of fraud. In one state one organized protest registered "Scooby Doo" a dog as participant in an online class. What is most troubling is that people who should take a class which has been proven to improve driver safety, take an innocuous course which does not aid safety on the roads. Over 40,000 people are killed in the US each year in automobile crashes and four million are injured. Online courses are not helping in the effort to improve driver safety.
Bad enough that there are unscrupulous defensive driving schools who accept payment from people who do not attend the classes and issue certificates to those who either took no class or who merely sat for one or two hours in a class which was designed to financially advance the criminal school rather than the driving public. The online courses lend toward deception and even while taken do not compare to the benefits of a classroom course. Politicians who succumb to lobbyists should be reminded by voters that they do not have the public safety in mind when they sell out to unscrupuous practitioners.
